This was a third time lucky trip for me, due to covid cancellations. Very happy to have made it to Vienna at Christmas at last! I stayed in the Mercure Vienna First which was a quite average hotel, but didn’t break the bank and was in a good location.

The capital of Austria, Vienna is ranked as one of the most liveable cities in the world with residents having a high quality of life. You ca tell while there that its an affluent place and has many stunning buildings, things to do and places to eat and drink.

Top thing to do:

  1. Hofburg Palace
  2. St Stephen’s Cathedral
  3. Rathaus
  4. Schönbrunn Palace
  5. Vienna State Opera
  6. The Spanish Riding School
  7. Vienna Ring Road
  8. Christmas Markets

The Christmas Markets in Vienna are awesome. There are many different locations, some small, some huge like the one at Rathaus which also has a huge open air ice rink.

The town centre is a beautiful place to wander around. You will no doubt see a few horse and carriages on your trip.

The area around St Stephen’s Cathedral was incredibly busy while I was there, nevertheless a good place to visit day and night 🙂
